Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, sleepy town. Many people unfamiliar with the word tend to think it's an island that's in the west of Montreal However, in reality the West Island is home to all things from the City of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time was not long in the city. Brugel grew to be a young woman living in Courtice Ontario, just outside Oshawa. She aspired to be a professional dancer, but due to an explosive expansion, she surpassed the dance partners she had. She admitted in an article written by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall and wears heels. As soon as I outgrew my male counterparts, I stopped. There are many dancers who make the move to acting. As for Bruce, it was her drama teacher who nudged her into this path. She was recommended by a teacher to find a role in school's annual production. She auditioned and ended up playing the role of the main character of Anne of Green Gables. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she studied Theatre and received a Bachelors of Fine Arts in 2000. Over the past 20 years since Brugel has been offered roles in over 60 shows on small and big screens drawing the most interest when she was offered the character of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the only Canadian cast member in the season 1 of the show and was not seen much.
